On the north-east coast, there is an area from Whangaruru in the south to Russell in the north, which captures the beauty of New Zealand’s natural coastline.

Driving north toward Russell from Whangarei there is a junction where you can choose to continue up the highway toward the vehicle ferry, or take the scenic coast road. This coastal drive along the Old Russell Road winds by coves, beaches and headlands of the outer bays.

Real estate can be of a premium along this strip. It is home to prestigious estates and also traditional, bach-style holiday homes. The main attraction is the ocean and stunning scenery. Year-round, you can dive, sail, fish and surf. As a gateway to the islands just offshore, generations of families have enjoyed holidaying along this coast.

The area is popular with high profile identities seeking a coastal retreat.  Many private estates are only visible from the water. These houses occupy prime headlands and vast waterfront land. Properties such as Omarino have set a precedent in coastal lifestyle.

Paroa Bay, Waipiro Bay, and Te Uenga are regarded for offering private, blue water locations.

Places to visit on this coastline include Helena Bay Gallery and Café, Elliot Beach, the walk to the Old Whaling Station at Whangamumu, Cape Brett and the Russell Forest where there are specimen Kauri and native trees.

Luxury Real Estate New Zealand personalise property tours throughout the area.  If you have any questions on New Zealand’s coastal and waterfront real estate and lifestyle, please feel free to contact me.
