The Bay of Islands this morning pictured above, feels a world away from the polar blast that has hit much of New Zealand.

When Otago locals are reported to say it is the biggest snowfall in 60 years, there must be a lot of snow falling down south.  The photos of New Zealand’s polar blast are amazing, including this light-hearted video of two dogs experiencing the snow. I think the St Bernard may have a design advantage.
Whilst it must be an exciting prospect for those looking forward to the ski season, I hope everyone stays safe and warm down there.

At this time of year the superb lifestyles on offer in the north and south of New Zealand certainly reflect on each location. As some brush off their ski boots, sailors up here scrub down the decks, with sailing on the calendar all year-round.

In the Bay of Islands we expect a few frosts every winter but it is a world away from the alpine regions of New Zealand. If you are interested in weather conditions, both current and historical data, here is the link to Metservice.

*A reminder to anyone visiting Russell this weekend that the Car Ferry service operating between Opua and Okiato will be closed at the following times due to upgrading works:
Sunday 23rd June 2013 9.00am-10.00pm
Monday 24th June 2013 9.00am-2.30pm

That’s another great reason to extend your stay in Russell this week.

Have a great weekend, Charlie
