State New Zealand Ocean Swim Series – Bay of Islands Classic
Saturday 22nd November 2014     11am – 4.00pm
Main Event Site:
Paihia Beach, Paihia, Bay of Islands

Move over dolphins, it’s that time of year when swimmers take to the water for the State New Zealand Ocean Swim Series – Bay of Islands Classic.

This fabulous event encourages keen swimmers of all ages and abilities to participate in an ocean swim.

  • For those with the aquatic touch, there is the ‘I’m Going Long’ – a 3.3km swim across from Russell to Paihia.
  • If you just want to test the water, the ‘Give it a Go’ is a 300m swim taking place off Paihia Beach.
  • The younger swimmers seem to love the ‘State Ocean Kids’ – a swim for children aged between 6-10 years old. The kids enjoy a fun 30min safety activity session followed by a 200m shallow water swim along Paihia beach, lined with Surf Life Saving NZ guards.

Pack the sunscreen, beach towels, goggles and cap and experience the superb waterways of the Bay of Islands.   As with any trip to the Bay of Islands, plan an extra few days – you’ll want to stay longer.

Special thanks to the Race organisers and photos: Simon Watts.
