Summer sailing is proving spectacular in the Bay of Islands.

Over 90 boats hit the start line for the annual Tall Ships Regatta.

For the Tall Ships Division it was a second-time win for Kerikeri’s Sofia and Slyvan Kuczera onboard Sylvia.  The 80ft steel ketch was built by their late father Bernard.

Another local vessel, Shanty headed home with three trophies onboard.  Jim and Terri Cottier, who have a remarkable skill-set between them, built Shanty over at Robertson Island.

Fastest around the track was the foiling catamaran MARWINGC32.  Team Marwin Racing is in the Bay of Islands for the summer, including former Olympian Sharon Feris-Choat and Flavio Marazzi, a four-time Olympic sailor.

The vessel is out on the water most days and it is quite a sight to see it in action.

Bay of Islands Sailing Week and The Millennium Cup

Racing continues this week with Bay of  Islands Sailing Week, 26-29 January 2016.  It is the super yacht race for The Millennium Cup.

With the likes of Kealoha, Janice of Wyoming, Silvertip, Tawera and Shamoun among the entrants, it  is shaping up to be a spectacular event.   According to milleniumcup.com, Owners and Skippers have nothing but praise for the Bay of Islands venue.  Among comments made are ‘picturesque venue’, ‘beautiful islands’, ’pristine diving’, ‘world class fishing’,  ‘beautiful anchorages’ and ‘amazing cuisine’.

A big welcome to all sailors and visitors.  Have a fabulous time in the Bay of Islands.
