Why Not Buy a Whole Village?
If you are looking to buy something more substantial and unusual, you might like to consider purchasing a whole village. According to the real estate agent Kelli Milmine, who is based in New Zealand, the Lake Waitaki Village is up for sale. The starting price is a relatively modest 2.8 million US dollars.
The village complex was built in the 1930s and comprises eight three bedroom houses, a big recently refurbished main lodge, and a cafe bar with a full commercial kitchen. There is also ample parking in a garage with nine bays. Included in the village is about 35 acres of lakeside land.
Lake Waitaki has had several owners over the years and has been in private ownership since 1991. The foreign buyer’s ban will make it difficult for international buyers to purchase the village. Overseas buyers are prohibited from buying residential property in New Zealand, unless they have residential status, and intend to live in the acquired property for at least 183 days of each year. International companies and trusts can buy commercial property and land through the Overseas Investment Office.
